4. Identify and analyze social problems/issues in your independent reading books.
MY BOOK: Wicked

   In my independent reading book there are a lot of social problems going on. Probably too many to count; but one in specific is the fact that there was a stalker, and that stalker was stalking all of the 5 main characters. This person was also a very close friend of one of one of the main characters. The stalker also tried to kill her best friend that she was stalking. When everyone finds out that this one girl was stalking so many people, she was already dead. She pretty much died in action, and when you think about it that is very much a problem for many people, like maybe the people who witnessed her death. This social problem really took over the mood of much of the book. Another social problem in this book is that one of the girls JUST found out that she was adopted. This is a problem because she has went through her whole entire life not knowing who her real family is, and nobody ever thought to tell her. When I read that, I just said to myself that doesn't seem like a social problem, but if you put yourself in that person's shoes and think about how that must feel when you finally find out that you haven't been living with your real family for your whole life.  For the past few pages that this has come up, this young girl is really traumatized by her parents dishonesty.  The last social problem that I can think of right now is that on of the characters, Emily is finally being accepted by her parents for being gay, but then she thinks that she might not be gay, she might be straight. This isn't really a social problem, but it is a problem with Emily's social appearance almost, or her own feelings about her social problems. I think that when she makes her decision about what her sexuality is, then what if her parents don't accept her for what she really is? She has changed once, they have taken a long enough time to change their minds about her once. But again? She will have some things to discuss with her parents!!
